Story of Change: Lord Ghave Jocson
Story of Change: Lord Ghave Jocson
Here is
Lord Ghave, 4 years old. He is one of our students in I-Bike (A Mobile School
Project) who touched our hearts when we get to know his story.
He came
from a poor family, his father is a “pedicab” driver earning below minimum and
his mother is jobless. He has three siblings and he is the third one from the
eldest. Since his age is too close to the youngest, he didn’t get enough
attention from his family. He is, in a way, neglected because his father is
always out working and his mother’s attention is always on the youngest.
One time,
when he noticed a group of kids studying in the street, he came and sat down to
observed. Because he loves to get attention, he usually disturbed students of
I-Bike to play with him. That is when we noticed him. Instead of asking him to
stay out of our class for us to have a quality time to teach our students, we
just let him sit down and observe. Then everytime he heard the name, “Lord”, in
our bible story time and prayer time, he is claiming that is his name. That is true,
his name is “Lord Ghave”. That became one of the reasons why he always comes to
our lessons. He likes to hear his name. By then, he became one of our regular
students.
Since then,
we noticed changes in the way he acts. Before, he always cause troubles with
his classmates and tears his workbooks, but little by little, we have noticed
that he starting to change. He is starting to behave and listens, he is
starting to like to colours his workbooks and participate in the lessons. He
even would like to come early because he wants to help out in setting up the
chairs and tables. That shows he is excited for the class. Because of these
changes in his character, his mother is so happy to see Lord Ghave excited to
learn and now prepared to go to a formal school. She will enrol him to Kinder
this school year. She is thankful to I-BIKE and felt at eased that her son
learned things that would help him in the future.
And we, as
his teachers felt that we achieved our purpose of this mobile school project.
We know, where ever God will lead Lord Ghave, he carries something with him
special and nothing will ever take it away from him.
We thank
God for this wonderful opportunity to be part of changing lives of these
children. We are looking forward to more stories of change. To God be all the
glory!
